The Pan-African Orchestra (PAO) was established in 1988 to explore the classical foundations of African music. The orchestra comprises talented instrumentalists from various regions of Ghana, representing the main ethnic groups of Ghana. The instruments used include atenteben flutes, gyle xylophones, gonje fiddles, atsimevu drums, fontomfrom drums, djembe palm drums, elephant tusk horns, light percussion instruments including voice.
